This home had a large backyard which was mostly lawn, irrigated by an antiquated sprinkler system. The landscape plan addressed reduced water usage while creating a more usable, interesting, and attractive space. Turf areas were reduced by over 50% with the installation of beds and a patio. A new highly efficient sprinkler system was installed.
The result is a new “outdoor room” with enhanced beauty and ambiance while requiring only 25% of the water to maintain it. The patio measures 14’ x 24’ and landscape bed and raised vegetable beds were added around the perimeter of the yard.
The sprinkler system employs low volume heads and a “Smart” controller which can be specifically programmed and also shuts down in the event of rain. The beds are all drip irrigated.

Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without! Our parents, who taught us that, made it work, without a doubt. So we have lived by that philosophy, too, and Cool Green Homes has helped it become more true! Caras Nursery started when we gave them our master plan to reduce water use and have some native plants. They buried a smart sprinkler with a drip system, too, then made a paver patio of a pale rusty hue. Dave at Bluebuck Woodworking will create us something new some living room furnishings and all from old wood, too! Garden City Recycling has curbside pickup for us, they take our cans, plastic, and papers without a fuss. A sustainable living is shown to us through Trail 103.3. All it takes is some habit change and for that there is no fee! Trying to be green is really the right thing to do, it makes you feel good, and helps the earth, too!
